I love birthdays, no matter how much older I am supposedly getting. (The generally adopted view of age as purely linear has always confused and disturbed me.)
People send cards, texts, and emails especially in celebration of you.
You get to do whatever you want - because it's your birthday.
Birthdays are beyond cool and celebrating the birthday of anyone else in your life is almost as much fun as your own.
The actual birthday event with friends is planned for Friday. (Dragging my friends to a hole in the wall to hear a folksinger.)
Therefore, today is my personal, private day to celebrate.
It started with getting out of bed at 10:45. (Because, hey it's my birthday, and so I got to sleep in.)
Quick walk with dog. (Because it's hot outside, and no one should have to sweat on their birthday.)
Two hours of work ONLY. (Because working hard on your birthday is just silly!)
Another quick walk with the dog. (Because doggie bladders apparently do not take a break simply because it is your birthday. Hmpf!)
And now just arrived at my Tex-Mex joint wearing my favorite plastic, rainbow-colored, heart-shaped sunglasses from Target for ritas on the patio. (As many as my heart desires because it's my birthday.)
After this, I am thinking that I will watch Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Parts 1 AND 2! (Bought the final dvds of my collection last week because, ya know, we should all do something for ourselves on our birthdays. I know you're jealous. I would be too. That being said, you are always welcome to come over and watch them with me, pick your favorite character, and recite their lines - unless your favorite character is Luna Lovegood. Only one person gets to recite her lines at my house. ;-)
Birthdays are the best. No one should ever dread them. It's a day to appreciate and remember that you got the opportunity to participate in life on this earth. So cool.
Special shout out of thanks to the momster for that whole gestation thing.
